Fire (Under My Feet) – Leona Lewis

Tune #2! This is a catchy one by the 2006 X Factor winner Leona Lewis from Islington, London. I used this as a musical lead-in to a lesson about the body with a class of intermediate 15 year olds, creating a gap fill and lyrics mix-up for them to do, followed by a brief discussion about their opinion of the song using 3 adjectives and what they think it is about. I also got them to describe the people in the video to assess their prior knowledge of appearance adjectives.

Fire (Under My Feet) – Leona Lewis (2015)

I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, you can’t put out these flames
You can’t keep me down in my seat
I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, go get out of the blaze
If you can’t take the heat
Fire

Oh… Oh… Oh… Oh…

I tripped and I stumbled
Watch my world crumble
Sometimes you eat dirt
You live and you learn

Thrown in with the lions
The tigers and titans
Afraid to get hurt
But now I’m making them purr

I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, you can’t put out these flames
You can’t keep me down in my seat
I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, go get out of the blaze
If you can’t take the heat
Fire
Oh… Oh…
Fire
Oh… Oh…

Was drowning in quicksand
Nobody grabbed my hand
Thought it’d bury me
Instead, I’m set free

Moving onto bigger things
I began to spread my wings
No longer in chains
I’m dancing over these flames

I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, you can’t put out these flames
You can’t keep me down in my seat
I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, go get out of the blaze
If you can’t take the heat
Fire
Oh… Oh…
Fire
I got, I got fire
Oh… Oh…

This may not be, not be perfect
But I’m happy and I’ve earned it
Every tear shed will be worth it
Step by step, ain’t looking back
Got no regrets, cause I got

I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, you can’t put out these flames
You can’t keep me down in my seat
I got fire under my feet
And I feel it in my heartbeat
Oh, go get out of the blaze
If you can’t take the heat
Fire
Oh… Oh
Fire
Yeah Yeah Yeah
I got fire
I got fire
Oh…

Fire, fire
Fire, fire
Damn feeling

Oh… Oh…

Fire
You can’t kill it, you can’t keep it
Fire
You can hold it, you can’t harm it
Fire
You can’t kill it, you can’t keep it
Fire

Fire
Can’t put out these flames

This could also be used to talk about being motivated and overcoming problems in life.

  1. You actually make it seem really easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually one thing that I feel I would by no means understand. It seems too complex and very vast for me. I’m looking ahead to your next submit, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

    1. Hi Alex! My first ever comment, thanks for that. Would you mind expanding on what you mean by “this matter” and whether you mean this from a teacher or student’s perspective? I’m guilty of overcomplicating things sometimes but I’m working on it. I’ll also focus on having more specific aims I think. This is kind of like a sounding board for all the ideas going around in my head and I appreciate hearing any feedback 🙂 Thanks again.

  2. Thanks! Again, you haven’t told me if you’re a teacher, trainee or otherwise so I’m not sure what your aim is for your presentation, but I was told about onthesamepageelt today which is also on WordPress. I’m sure if you do a search you’ll find many more but also try it yourself some time using your favourite music. Endless possibilities! You should also read Jeremy Harmer’s work. Good luck for your presentation and let me know how it goes!
